A Cultural Journey with Sak Beh Yoga

The Meaning of Sak Beh

Sak Beh, our name, is inspired by the rich cultural heritage of the ancient Maya civilization that once thrived in the jungles of Central America. “Sak” is the Maya word for “white”, a symbol of purity and clarity, while “Beh” means “road” or “path”, representing the journey we take to connect with the natural world and with ourselves.

But our name also has a deeper significance, rooted in the ancient wisdom of the Maya people. In Maya cosmology, the color white is associated with the element of air and the direction of the east, which represents the beginning of a new day and a new cycle of life. The Maya believed that by aligning ourselves with the energy of the east, we can find clarity, inspiration, and renewal.

The “white roads” were also ancient highways or causeways made of white limestone that connected major cities and ceremonial centers throughout the region.
These white roads were not just practical transportation routes – they were also deeply symbolic, representing the connection between different communities and the flow of ideas, goods, and people between them. They were also considered sacred, as they linked important religious and ceremonial sites and were believed to be pathways for communication with the divine.

At Sak Beh Yoga, we honor this tradition by creating our own “white path” – a metaphorical road that connects us with the natural world, with each other, and with the ancient wisdom of the Maya people. By following this path with mindfulness and intention, we hope to create a space of healing, growth, and transformation for all who visit us.

When you visit Sak Beh Yoga, you’re not just experiencing a beautiful natural retreat – you’re also tapping into a rich cultural legacy that honors the wisdom and traditions of the Maya people.

So come and join us on the white path at Sak Beh Yoga – let’s journey together towards a deeper understanding of ourselves and our place in the world.

Temazcal Ceremony: Purification and Rebirth

The ancient Mayan tradition of Temazcal Ceremony, which is still practiced today, is a spiritual journey that will cleanse your body, mind, and soul.

The Temazcal, or sweat lodge, is a sacred space where we come together to connect with the energies of the earth and the elements. Led by our experienced guide, you’ll step into the sacred circle of the Temazcal, where volcanic stones are heated to release steam infused with medicinal herbs.

As you enter the womb-like Temazcal, you’ll embark on a journey of purification and rebirth. The intense heat, the healing steam, and the power of ritual combine to release toxins, negative energy, and emotional burdens, allowing you to emerge renewed and revitalized.

Our guide will lead you through ancient chants and ceremonies, connecting you to the wisdom of the Mayan ancestors. The Temazcal ceremony is powerful experience, and a place of deep introspection, and self-discovery.
